A week before my birthday it was take your kids to work day at John's work. He took both boys and I had the luxury of going to the gym in the middle of the day. When I returned home I happened to notice a little dog standing at my gate. I tried to call to him, but he would not come. I went in through the garage and decided I would open the gate and it would scare him back to his home where ever that may be. No such luck. As soon as I opened the door this pathetic little emaciated dog not only ran in the gate to our yard , but also took it upon himself to run in the house through the open door. He would not leave for anything.
I called John in a panic and told him what had happened. I finally was able to bribe the dog out of the house with some food and water and locked him in the courtyard while I went to pick the boys up.
When the boys got home this little dog greeted them as if they were long lost family. Jack was terrified of him at first (due to two dog bites in his past)
but once he warmed up he was in love. They affectionately started calling him "Scooby".
Now as cute as he was ..He was neutered, I assumed he was someones pet and was just lost. I called Animal Control to come pick him up, but put hold on him just in case...I did not want him to get killed as dogs in our city get sent to the county lock up.
Animal Control took all day to come pick him up...by the time they got there this little dog had completely decided this was his home. He went crazy barking at the super sweet man that came to pick him up...The guy said to me "yeah Chihuahua's are super protective of their owners" I said..."But I am not his owner"
I was a little relieved when he left..the whole thing stressed me out. The next day we looked at his picture the pound posted...he looked so sad and scared. As the next 7 days passed we talked a lot about what we should do. Jack and Liam had already decided we were taking him. I just couldn't help thinking about how he had actually chose us...I couldn't just turn my back on that.
So the day after my birthday and $350 later for a free dog, this little guy came home for good. They boys decided his name needed to be changed to "Boxcar" We thought that was perfect.
Boxcar is a Chihuahua mix and is about 1 1/2. He fits in well, is a SERIOUS lap dog but it is taking some adjusting...I will never be ok with picking up poo. I just keep thinking...of all the houses why did he pick ours??
